OSHA’s Top 10 Most Frequently Cited Standards for Fiscal Year 2022

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) revealed its annual list of Top 10 Most Frequently Cited Standards for Fiscal Year 2022, which ended on September 30, 2022.

OSHA publishes this list to alert employers about these commonly cited standards so they can take steps to find and fix recognized hazards addressed in these and other standards. Far too many preventable injuries and illnesses are still occurring in the workplace!

The Top 10 Most Frequently Cited Standard Violations for FY 2022 were:

  1. Fall Protection – General Requirements: 5,260 Violations
  2. Hazard Communication: 2,424 Violations (25% increase from 2021)
  3. Respiratory Protection: 2,185 Violations (previously #2)
  4. Ladders: 2,143 Violations
  5. Scaffolding: 2,058 Violations (reduction of almost 20%)
  6. Lockout/Tagout: 1,977 Violations
  7. Powered Industrial Trucks: 1,749 Violations
  8. Fall Protection – Training Requirements: 1,556 Violations
  9. Eye and Face Protection: 1,401 Violations
  10.  Machine Guarding: 1,370 Violations
